YA novels set in Ireland

Happy St. Patrick's Day! In the spirit of the holiday, here are a few YA books set in Ireland. Have you read any of them? What do you think about reading books set in another country in general? I don't really mind where my books are set, as long as I can connect with the characters and understand the setting, but I've read that a lot of readers prefer to read books set in the country they are from or live in.

  1. I just read BREATH, EYES, MEMORY by Edwidge Danticat (review going up on Monday). The MC is from Haiti, and much of the novel is set there. An excellent book, and part of what's good about it is the way Danticat gives you a sense of what it's like to live there--to walk the dusty roads, smell the food, and hear the conversation in the streets. More than a travelogue, it's an experience. Books that can do that are well worth reading.
