500 new fairytales discovered

Yesterday there was an article in the Guardian confirming that 500 new fairytales were discovered. Do you know what this means? 500 new opportunities to re-tell a fairytale! Exciting stuff.

And on that note, I should be getting to CINDER soon! Have you read any fairy-tale retellings lately? And if you are a fan of fairytales (or have some fairytale writing you're thinking about submitting), check out Enchanted Conversation

  1. A friend of mine wrote two retellings, a Little Mermaid one and a Cinderella one. I enjoyed both of them. I think she has a good chance of getting them published. :) You probably meant published novels, didn't you? :)

    2. Well that's not fair - now I can't read them! haha. I hope your friend gets them published so I can check them out :) Sounds like Enchanted Conversation might be a good place for her to try submitting to (if her stories aren't novel length).

  2. I love fairy tales and re-tellings! I've fallen in love with ABC's Once Upon a Time. CINDER is on my "to-read" list. I recently finished Malinda Lo's ASH (a Cinderella retelling) and some Angela Carter short stories that included quite a few fractured fairy tales. One of my favorite books is Jane Yolen's Briar Rose, which is influenced by Sleeping Beauty. Now I need to read that again, haha.

My first novel, The Eternal Queen, is actually a fractured fairy tale. It's influenced by Red Riding Hood, and self-published on Amazon and Smashwords. I hope you don't mind the self-plug. ^_^

And best of luck with your first novel. Thats really exciting and I don't mind at all. I have a lot of books in my TBR pile but I'll add yours to the list. Nice title btw.
